FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here we've answered some of the questions we're often asked. Perhaps you have the same question that was on somebody else’s mind. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Drop us a line and we will be happy to find the answer for you.

DO I NEED TO DO THE ANTENATAL CLASSES AS WELL IF I CHOOSE TO DO HYPNOBIRTHING CLASSES?

No, our hypnobirthing classes will provide you with all of the knowledge for birth and caring for your baby.

WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19 AND PREGNANCY?

We appreciate what an unsettling time it is to be pregnant and understand how difficult it is for some of you to not have access to one named midwife at the moment. We hope that by having one of us supporting you will give you that element of consistency. Maternity units are constantly updating their policies and restrictions, but until we are ‘back to normal’, we’re here at the end of the phone or email.

You can get up to date information about COVID-19 and pregnancy here (insert link https://www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/coronavirus-pregnancy/covid-19-virus-infection-and-pregnancy/)

WHEN CAN YOUR PRIVATE FACE TO FACE ANTENATAL CLASSES AND HYPNOBIRTHING CLASSES RECOMMENCE FOLLOWING LOCKDOWN?

As of the 4th of July 2020, we are allowed to recommence private classes in the comfort of your own home whilst following social distancing. You’ll have plenty of time with your own private midwife to chat over tea and biscuits (we’ll provide the biscuits)

WHEN CAN GROUP CLASSES RECOMMENCE FOLLOWING LOCKDOWN?

We’re currently viewing spacious but still cosy venues to accomodate our group classes and still being able current government guidelines. We plan to recommence group antenatal classes and group hypnobirthing classes in January 2021, group online classes will continue to be available before then. If you are interested in a group class, please contact us (insert link to form) and we’ll update you as soon as dates and venues become available.

WHAT SUPPORT WILL I RECEIVE ONCE MY CLASSES FINISH?

Don’t just think we’re going to wave goodbye as soon as the classes finish! We want to ensure you remain calm, confident and prepared all the way up to the birth. You’ll get continued support up until you have your baby and in those first few weeks after birth from Midwife Hannah if you’re having your classes in Surrey or from Midwife Rachel if you’re having your classes in Sussex. We’ll send you useful tips and resources to complement what we teach you including what to pack in your hospital bag, fantastic and empowering births to watch and guide you to further information if you need it.  On top of that, we’ll be in regular contact right up until you meet your baby, we’ll visit you at home after your baby’s born, organise a group meet up with the babies or arrange a video call (if your classes were taught online) to offer postnatal support.

WHAT IF I HAVE MY BABY EARLY AND HAVEN’T FINISHED THE MIDWIFE-LED CLASSES?

If your baby has decided to make an early appearance before finishing classes, we’ll refund you the sessions that you aren’t able to attend. However, we would love to still meet your baby so we’ll still provide you with ongoing support for the first couple of weeks following the birth.

CAN YOU LOOK AFTER ME DURING THE BIRTH OF MY BABY?

As much as we would love to look after you during birth, unfortunately this isn’t something we are able to offer. This is due to the cost of indemnity insurance to attend a birth. We can put you in contact with fantastic birth doulas and independent midwives if you are seeking additional birth support.

WHO SHOULD I BRING TO MY CLASSES?

We highly recommend that birth partners are in attendance during either our antenatal classes or hypnobirthing classes, so they have the same understanding as you and know how to support you properly during the birth. If you are considering our hypnobirthing classes and are struggling to get your birth partner on board (this is really common!), we would love to have a chat with you both and can quickly persuade even the most stubborn of partners!

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE GROUP CLASSES?

We have a maximum of 5 couples in our group classes to allow you to easily get to know each other.

WHEN SHOULD I CONTACT YOU TO BOOK CLASSES?

The sooner the better. We generally advise starting from about 25 weeks, but if you feel you’d benefit from starting them sooner this can also be arranged.

I’VE DEVELOPED PREGNANCY COMPLICATIONS. SHOULD I STILL ATTEND CLASSES?

Absolutely! The beauty of these classes is that they are personal to you, so we’ll work with you to teach and create a list of different birth preferences.

WHAT DO I NEED TO ENSURE I HAVE AT HOME PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS?

Apart from a cup of tea and a comfy chair, there isn't much required! You may wish to purchase a birthing ball to practice the positions for birth alongside your midwife and in order to sit comfortably for pregnancy massage.

I'M INTERESTED! HOW DO I BOOK A CLASS?

Fantastic! Simply contact us or call us to discuss booking. We can’t wait to hear from you.
